The Blue Technology Barometer

Showing your blue credentials is becoming as important in climate control as is green.  This barometer method was developed by the MIT Technology Review and assesses multiple countries on their marine activity, what technologies they invest in for renewable energies, which governments are proactively supporting growth and development in blue technologies and which countries are trying to reduce their level of plastics.

The UK, is currently one of the top slated countries for blue technologies.  Much of this is based on the UKs involvement in wind power, with fixed and floating wind farms. South Korea is the only non-western country to be in the top ten. As a nation they have the largest number of patents based around blue technologies, predominantly wave power.  Just like the UK their natural geography makes development in these technologies easier to implement as the natural influences ie wind and wave are more predictable and consistent.

The planning and implementation of all these initiatives requires detailed engineering and expertise to bring them to fruition.   As a manufacturer of process instrumentation equipment, Delta Mobrey is capable of building products designed to suit the harsh environments many of these technologies require.  We work with our business partners to provide robust measurement of fluids, solids, and gasses irrespective of the colour of technology required.

Why is any of this of any real importance? The quote from Francesca Fanshawe, International Editorial Director at MIT Technology Review has stated: “Consumer engagement in areas like fishing and marine pollution are putting pressure on companies to invest in ocean conservation. Increasingly, we’re seeing ‘blue’ sustainability efforts being synonymous with economic competitiveness.” Sounds like good business to us.
