Delta Controls extends engagement with Kuwait’s Az-Zour North power plant
Delta chosen to supply control instrumentation to combined power and desalination plant
Delta Controls, the global specialists in the design and manufacture of temperature and pressure process control instrumentation, has secured a contract for supplying the latest phase of the gas-fired combined-cycle power plant and desalination plants at Az-Zour North in Kuwait. Delta has already supplied instrumentation to earlier phases of the project bringing the total value of business won to around half a million pounds.
Delta is working alongside some of the biggest international names supplying the power generation industry. Hyundai Heavy Industries holds the engineering, purchasing and construction (EPC) contract for the power plant, while France’s Engie (formerly GDF Suez) and Japan’s Sumitomo will undertake the ongoing operation and maintenance of the plant.
The power and water desalination plant are part of the Az-Zour North Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP). The IWPP will have a total capacity to generate 4,800 MW of electricity and 486,000 cubic metres of desalinated water per day. It will supply approximately 10 per cent of Kuwait’s energy capacity and 20 per cent of its desalination capacity.
The plant is based on combined-cycle gas turbine technology using heat recovery steam generators and steam turbines, and is one of the first plants to use both combined cycle and cogeneration technologies.
“Delta Controls’ products and solutions are found in the most demanding and innovative projects in the global power generation and water desalination industry, as our work at Az-Zour North clearly demonstrates,” says Dr. Chris Webborn, Sales Director at Delta Controls Ltd. “We remain at the forefront of our industry, supplying instrumentation to a wide variety of end users, main contractors, major plant equipment suppliers and OEMs, enabling them to realise technological advances without ever compromising safety, reliability or dependability.”
Delta Controls supplies a full range of pressure, temperature and flow switches and transmitters for process monitoring, alarm and safety shutdown applications, as well as for all ancillary equipment. It supports new build projects in the conventional, nuclear, cogeneration and renewable sectors. In addition, Delta Controls products and solutions are used in major plant refurbishments, recommissions, upgrades, life extensions and end-of-life obsolescence, as well as programmes to improve safety and reliability.
In addition to power generation, the company’s products are used in the oil and gas, petrochemical, water and wastewater, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, pulp and paper, and chemical engineering sectors.
