As a globally-recognised process instrumentation specialist, Delta Mobrey design and manufacture a diverse portfolio of products for use across industries, including both classified and non-classified instrumentation to the nuclear industry.
With over 100 years of expertise, Delta Mobrey’s focus on quality continues to be a core value not just for the business, but also the wider supply chain.
We talked to Vince Altamura, Quality Manager at Delta Mobrey about his drive for continual improvement and the quality demands of supplying to the nuclear industry.
“Having worked across many major manufacturing & technology businesses, I’ve accrued pretty broad experience across different quality standards. As part of the Mobrey acquisition, the expanded business needed to be re-certified for ISO9001:2015, and with more than 1,500 quality procedures, it was naturally a big integration exercise.
Having completed that, we’re now looking at policies and processes across the whole supply chain, from First Article Inspections, to Goods-in Inspections, Manufacturing QC and Finished Goods inspections.”
Vince joined Delta Mobrey in mid-2019, and was pleased to discover a culture of continual improvement already in place.
“Continual improvement was already very much core to the business, which is why we have several people focused on supplier audits as well as internal auditing.
This has allowed me time to focus on continuous improvement, starting at the top – What is the policy? What does the Quality Manual say about how to implement the policy? Does this comply with the standards? How can we do it better?”
Vince still makes sure he balances his management responsibilities with time spent on the shop floor, particularly focusing on the stringent quality demands of Delta Mobrey’s classified and non-classified nuclear products.
“I recently oversaw a swab test with one of our customers, to monitor levels of Chloride, Fluoride and Sulphide on products for a nuclear application. Excess levels could otherwise lead to micro fatigue over time. As well as getting me out onto the shop floor, it highlights the quality demands we routinely work to.
That’s the joy of the job. No day is ever the same, and with manufacturing operations around the world, I’m excited to be contributing to the next chapter in Delta Mobrey’s long and distinguished history.”
